Nollau Retreat Inspires 2013 Class »

“The first thing I can say about Nollau is wow,” says Nancy Beard, president and CEO of the United Church Homes and Services Foundation in Newton, N.C. Beard is a member of CHHSM’s yearlong leadership formation program, the Nollau Institute, whose 2013 class met for the first time at a Jan. 14-16 retreat in St. Louis.

CHHSM Launches Legacy Fund »

As CHHSM celebrates its 75th anniversary this year, the organization is taking steps to ensure it continues to develop dynamic leadership for the future. On Sept. 1, CHHSM launched a five-year campaign to support the Legacy Fund, an initiative designed to expand CHHSM’s leadership formation mission. The goal is to raise $300,000.

Last September, when we gathered for the first Nollau retreat, I traced the roots of our gathering to 1817, when King Frederick Wilhelm III of Prussia merged the Reformed and Lutheran branches of German Protestantism into the Evangelical Church of the Prussian Union.

Last fall, CHHSM’s inaugural Nollau Institute class began a yearlong process of formation. The 18-member class has explored the relationship between spirituality and vocation through intensive study, personalized training, special retreats, site visits, online discussions and peer mentoring.
