Emmaus Celebrates Direct Support Professionals During Annual Recognition Week

Emmaus’ 2025 DSP Honorees

Each year, Emmaus Homes in St. Charles, Mo., celebrates Direct Support Professional Week by honoring some of the direct support professionals who go the extra mile for their clients. A Direct Support Professional (DSP) is someone who works directly with people who have intellectual or developmental disabilities. DSP Week is the annual opportunity for Emmaus to recognize the great work of these local heroes that are the heart and soul of its mission in supporting the men and women of Emmaus.

This year, five DSPs were recognized, four for going above and beyond in living out each of Emmaus’ core values, and one as the agency’s DSP of the Year. Here’s a look at the incredible people Emmaus celebrated in 2025.

DSP of the Year—Shelley Saale

With 38 years of service, Shelley is the definition of commitment and heart. She is a mentor to her peers, a role model living our core values, and a trusted team member who brings joy and dignity to the individuals she supports. Her impact stretches across generations of staff and families at Emmaus. One colleague wrote, “There are not many employees who stay with a company as long as Shelley has, yet she continues to demonstrate that we can all do and be a part of something bigger than ourselves.” It is an honor to recognize Shelley as Emmaus’ DSP of the Year.
