A New Partnership Brings Free Medical Care to Back Bay Mission Neighbors

A ceremonial ribbon-cutting launched the new Back Bay Mission/Memorial Health System partnership.

Back Bay Mission (BBM) in Biloxi, Miss., has announced a powerful new partnership with Memorial Health System of the Gulf Coast. This partnership will expand access to healthcare for individuals in the community experiencing poverty and homelessness.

Resident physicians from Memorial Health System’s Graduate Medical Education program will visit Back Bay Mission’s campus twice monthly to provide free medical care and services to BBM neighbors via a healthcare mobile unit.

This initiative provides preventative medical care that helps reduce infections, untreated illnesses, and emergency room visits.

To celebrate the partnership, Back Bay Mission hosted a ribbon-cutting at the BBM campus Jan. 16. The campus was alive with supporters from different organizations across the Gulf Coast, showing excitement for the hope of what’s to come through this collaboration.

The healthcare mobile unit will allow resident physicians to provide free medical care to Back Bay Mission neighbors.

“This partnership provides free health care to the unsheltered and to the uninsured, at ZERO cost to them,” said Terra Moreau, BBM’s health and wellness navigator. “This will be life saving for so many people. In fact, seven people were seen in the short time the van was on campus, and they all received needed medication.”

The mobile unit provides guests the flexibility of being able to walk onto the bus and receive same-day services from resident physicians in training.

The initiative meets people where they are, removing barriers to care and ensuring that compassion, dignity, and quality healthcare are accessible to all.
