Executive Director: United Caring Services (UCS)

POSITION SUMMARY: The Executive Director of United Caring Services provides organizational leadership and oversees administration, operations, and service provision. Implements the strategic vision co-developed with the UCS Board of Directors, philanthropic sustainability, and ethical practices. Serves as the chief executive officer engaging stakeholders to promote and support the mission, vision, and values of United Caring Services.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP: Role models a caring, equitable, inclusive, diverse, and collaborative teamwork culture. Ensures compliance with grant and safety guidelines, current laws, and regulations, and modifies UCS practices if needed. Ensures annual performance reviews are conducted. Ensures the staff and volunteers are adequately trained with adequate equipment, materials, and support to be able to successfully perform their duties
DONOR DEVELOPMENT and MARKETING: Works with board members and and/or staff to create and implement strategic marketing, communication, and fundraising plans. Acts as the primary spokesperson and ambassador for United Caring Services and the issues surrounding homelessness in the community. Serves on relevant and related committees at the local, state, and national level.
FISCAL MANAGEMENT and ACCOUNTABILITY: Works with board members and and/or staff to develop, recommend, and oversee the organization’s financial sustainability and success. Ensures transparency and integrity of the financial management and reporting by developing and implementing processes and practices to achieve the organization’s operational goals within budget. Negotiates contracts with vendors and contractors and ensures that funding compliance and reporting is maintained.
PROGRAMS and SERVICES: Ensures the program services and solutions delivered by UCS for the benefit of the community to fulfill its mission and addresses the ever-changing relief, rehabilitation, and restoration needs of the served population.
PROPERTY MANAGEMENT and OPERATIONS: Role models and leads all staff to safely implement UCS’s operations, initiatives, policies, and practices. Leads the safe, and secure organizational operations of the organization through Directors, Managers, Team Leaders, Direct Care members, and volunteers; and works with Board and staff to develop and implement a strategic plan for maintenance, repair, improvement projects, and expansion campaigns.
BOARD ADMINISTRATION and SUPPORT: Develops a strong working relationship with the board of directors; develops and maintains an effective communication system throughout the organization; works closely with the board president to ensure the success of program operations; facilitates interactions between board and staff.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONS
- BS degree required, Master’s degree preferred, in business, public administration, finance, or human services
- Minimum of five years of progressively related management and leadership experience in a nonprofit organization — health and human services for vulnerable population agency preferred.
- Strong demonstrated ability in donor development, appeal letters, major gifts, planned giving, capital campaigns, and peer-to-peer fundraising with proven ability to prospect, cultivate and strengthen donor relationships.
- Working knowledge of SWOT analysis, strategic planning, logic modeling, program development and evaluation, managing capital projects, and grant writing and reporting.
- Strong interpersonal, human relations, problem-solving, financial management, networking, and written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a volunteer board of directors and its committees.
- Demonstrated ability to make effective, persuasive speeches, and presentations on controversial or complex topics to public groups, boards, employees, and other stakeholders.
- Experience and proficient skills with relevant technology and/or ability to learn donor management software.
