Community Health Worker: Back Bay Mission

Back Bay Mission is looking for a Community Health Worker. Back Bay Mission is located on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in Biloxi, Miss. This is an exciting time for the Back Bay Mission as we celebrate 100 years of service to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. We serve those who are homeless, living in poverty, and those who volunteer with us seeking to help make systemic change. We are a nationally recognized faith-based non-profit that has always been agile and willing to address the most critical needs of underserved populations.

Role: The Community Health Workers advocates, facilitates, and organizes access to health care and social support services with/for targeted individuals through health screens, lifestyle health support, and community education to address social determinants of health and chronic illness and prevention. Their role as a change agent is to act as an equitable link for health improvement outcomes. In addition, the Community Health Worker will participate in demonstration projects, pilot programs, and national initiatives that will have a major impact on the health and well-being of individuals and our community.

Salary Range: Full-time position at $16 an hour, fully covered health insurance and a generous pension. Driver’s license necessary.

Candidate Profile: The ideal candidate for the Community Health Worker will have a working knowledge of the health care systems and a genuine concern for homeless, disabled, and persons living in poverty. Empathy for and understanding of problems, limitations, needs of the homeless and underserved populations.

The ideal candidate must have an ability to effectively communicate and network with other agencies and the public. This individual needs a willingness and ability to collaborate cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors.

Flexibility and patience are necessary and strong organizational and multi-tasking skills are a must. The ideal candidate must be able to reason, be proficient in Word, and be able to develop forms and follow monthly reporting procedures.

This individual would also need a strong collaborative and team spirit and the ability to be a strong spokesperson for Back Bay Mission and advocate for the populations we serve when and where required.

The Community Health Worker will report directly to the Director of Client Services. Training and continuing education will be provided. Obtaining a CHW certificate is mandatory.
The candidate will be able to have appropriate boundaries and high ethical standards.
