Megan Culbertson of Chicago has been recognized as the 2012 CHHSM Scholar. Culbertson is currently working toward a Master of Divinity at Chicago Theological Seminary and a master’s degree in social work from the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration. She graduated magna cum laude in 2011 from Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, with a degree in religion and sociology.

Darlene Sowell never wondered what she wanted to do when she grew up. She always knew: to help others. “My parents had a strong commitment to community service and giving back,” Sowell says. “So I picked that up somewhere along the way. As a young adult, it became even more important for me to give back as a professional, especially with African-American youth.”

Bob Baur comes from a long line of missionaries and pastors. His grandfather was a professor at Eden Seminary in St. Louis from 1903 to 1936. Out of his grandfather’s 10 children – six girls and four boys — all but one were connected to the ministry.
