“Historically, the focus was on the mission side,” says Woodard, who joined Uplands Village in Pleasant Hill, Tenn., in January 2012 as its executive director. “We had a strong sense of outreach, of giving, of the ministry side of the communities. But many of the CCRCs may not have had very strong business plans.”
