What Can The Pension Boards Do For Me?

Last month we described the advantages church plans have over retirement plans of private employers who are subject to complex federal laws and regulations that do not apply to church plans. A major consideration is fees, but we realize that the additional talk about laws, regulations, church plans and exemptions can be very confusing to people whose primary purpose is to provide a health or human services ministry. The Pensions Board wants to offer its expertise to help your organization come to grips with its retirement program.

The Pension Boards has, on staff, experts in retirement plan design, plan administration, plan communications, employee benefits and tax law, actuarial science, plan investments and plan accounting. We want to put these professional services to work for you by:

  1. Consulting with your organization concerning its current retirement plan.
Send us a copy of your retirement plan document. We will analyze your plan and provide you with an analysis and recommendations. You will usually receive a written report within 30 days. There is no charge for this service.
  2. Recommending retirement plans or arrangements that may be extraordinarily beneficial to management of your organization.
Certain types of plans (such as Code section 457(b) and (f) plans) can provide significant tax advantages to senior management by allowing additional deferrals of income. The Pension Boards has the expertise to design, document and administer these types of plans. Charges, if any, are minimal and competitive.
  3. Fully administering your organization's retirement plan or plans.
The Pension Boards holds approximately $3 billion in retirement plan assets, and is the 310th largest retirement fund and the 6th largest denomination benefits board in the United States. We provide plan design, plan administration, plan accounting and recordkeeping, plan communications, plan investments and plan documentation services. We keep you informed of legal and other developments. Charges for these services are extremely reasonable and are often half or less of what similar providers charge.
  4. Transitioning your organization's retirement plan to The Pension Boards.
CHHSM members and their employees who have transitioned retirement plans to The Pension Boards have been extremely satisfied with the transition and administration of their plans. The transition can usually be accomplished in a three- to six-month time period.
