Council for Health and Human Service Ministries

From the President

Photo of Bryan Sickbert We are pleased to announce that, earlier this month, CHHSM's Walking the Talk consulting program finalized a covenant with The Beatitudes Campus. Through this 12-month agreement, The Beatitudes Campus will be a community of practice for Walking the Talk, making itself a home for the program's ideas, learning and ongoing discernment.

As a community of practice for Walking the Talk, The Beatitudes will be a laboratory to experiment with new thinking in leadership and organizational development. Together with the Walking the Talk team, the campus will explore how leadership develops and an organization grows through appreciative, asset-based practices. Over time, The Beatitudes will consider what it means to be a community that recognizes and values the wholeness already present in its people and its organization.

Specifically, our new project has these objectives:

  • To inquire into how an appreciative, asset-based approach helps achieve integration of spirit and work while strengthening the business;
  • To identify corporate practices that recognize and cultivate the organization's faith heritage as a resource for its learning;
  • To assess the impact of this work upon employee satisfaction, resident satisfaction, quality of care, and other indicators of healthy business performance.

In this new endeavor, The Beatitudes Campus and CHHSM have both committed to sharing their learning with one another and with CHHSM members. Our first pilot project, with The Beatitudes assisted living staff, has already begun; we look forward to bringing you news about that endeavor soon.

Would you like to know more about Walking the Talk? On Friday morning of CHHSM's Annual Meeting in Charlotte next week (March 6-9), three members of the Walking the Talk team will present a plenary session that will introduce you to asset-based practice. If you'd like to talk specifically about how Walking the Talk can benefit your ministry, please call or email CHHSM's Director of Consulting Services Daniel Pryfogle at 919- 460-7069 or pryfogled@chhsm.org.

I look forward to seeing you in Charlotte!
